The Weekend to End Breast Cancer: Photos from Toronto
On the weekend of September 12, four team members from Best Health’along with thousands of other participants’walked to raise money for the fight against women’s cancers. Here are some shots we took along the way
Day 1: The opening stretch
Over 4,600 walkers met at Exhibition Place to begin the Weekend. Here, participants are being led in a pre-walk stretch.
Day 1: Best Health stretches, too
From left: Editor Bonnie Munday, associate publisher Michelle Kellner and sales associate Grant Faulkner formed the Best Health team, along with web editor (and official Best Health event photographer) Kat Tancock and e-commerce director Zahra Young, who walked in Montreal.
Day 1: Time for lunch
There were pit stops along the route, some with just water and “sanctuaries” (*ahem* Porta-Potties), some with food as well. Here, the team stops for a well-deserved lunch break.
Day 1: The finish line
32 km after the stretching, we staggered past the finish line at Downsview Park.
Day 1: Best Health for all
Walkers also received a complimentary copy of Best Health, and a special subscription offer.
Day 1: Our team relaxes
The Best Health team took advantage of the opportunity to sit back in the grass, relax and enjoy cold drinks.
Day 2: Time to stretch
Walkers stretching at pit stops and even red lights became a more common sight as the day wore on.
Day 2: Past the Princess Margaret
As the route moved through the downtown core, walkers passed the Princess Margaret Hospital, the beneficiary of their fundraising. Here, Kat and Bonnie are pictured with Dr. Robert Buckman, a medical oncologist at the hospital.
Day 2: An awesome achievement
Walkers get their picture taken next to a statue commemorating the fundraising efforts of all participants in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, to be called the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers starting in 2010. In 2009, participants raised over $11.6 million.
