Take a two-week vacation from the gym and you may not see a huge difference in how your jeans fit, but new research shows it can significantly affect how fat is distributed on your body.
A small Danish study in the March 19th issue of the Journal of the American Medical found that when men went from moderately active (6,000-10,000 steps a day) to less so (1,500 steps per day), their belly fat rose an average of 7 percent.
What’s more – slacking off also impacted their insulin sensitivity (which regulates blood sugar, impacts appetite, etc.) AND changed the way dietary fats are processed.
Two weeks away from the treadmill may not feel like a long time (none of the study participants gained any obvious weight) but it clearly has an impact – beyond the unsightly bulge over your jeans. More than fat anywhere else on your body, abdominal fat boosts the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
