Vaginal Dryness: It’s More Common Than You Think

Nearly half of menopausal women experience vaginal dryness. If you’re one of them, you’re not alone.

What causes vaginal dryness?

Vaginal dryness is often connected to the decline of the female hormone estrogen, which can be triggered by childbirth, breastfeeding, and most commonly, menopause. Other causes of vaginal dryness include some medications, stress, and even intense exercise. It’s a completely normal, and even common occurrence, but that doesn’t mean you have to live in discomfort.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms include vaginal irritation, itching or discomfort, painful or more frequent urination, and urinary tract infections. You may feel symptoms all the time, or only sometimes, such as during or after sex, when using tampons or at the end of your menstrual cycle.

Despite affecting nearly half of menopausal women, vaginal dryness is a topic that rarely gets the attention it deserves. Women may be embarrassed to discuss it with their health-care provider and end up leaving their symptoms untreated. They suffer alone and in silence.

What’s more, vaginal dryness is also associated with a lower sex drive and difficulty with arousal and orgasm. This can lead to discomfort, pain, tearing or bleeding during sex, and ultimately an avoidance of sex altogether. Not surprisingly, this can negatively impact a relationship.

Finding relief for vaginal dryness

The skin of the vulva is very delicate and dryness can lead to uncomfortable rubbing and chafing. In some cases, everyday things like walking, exercising or sitting for prolonged periods could cause soreness and discomfort if the area is not lubricated.

There’s no reason you have to live with vaginal dryness. Over-the-counter vaginal lubricants or vaginal moisturizers can help to relieve mild to moderate dryness by supplementing the body’s natural moisture. Whether you need continuous hydration, extra lubrication during intimacy or occasional moisture to soothe outside skin surrounding the vagina, Replens has you covered as the #1 Physician Recommended Vaginal Lubricant in Canada.

Replens Long Lasting Vaginal Moisturizer is clinically tested to help prevent dryness from recurring. It delivers long lasting relief and supplements the body’s natural lubrication that lasts up to 3 days per application.

For daily or as-needed external moisture, use Replens Moisture Restore External Comfort Gel. It helps soothe irritation of the outside skin surrounding the vagina so normal activities like walking and exercising are as comfortable as they should be.

For improved comfort during intimacy, use Replens Silky Smooth Personal Lubricant. This premium, silicon-based formula lubricates for continuous pleasure.
