Need to look at a medical scan, but nowhere near a hospital? There’s an app for that!
According to reports from CBC News, Calgary researcher Dr. Ross Mitchell’a University of Calgary medical biophysicist’has created a specialized application that allows doctors across Canada to view medical scans on their iPhones.
Mitchell’s company, Calgary Scientific, developed the new technology under the name ResMD. The app has now been approved by Health Canada as a diagnostic tool.
In addition to allowing doctors to review scans from any location, thereby allowing patient treatment to begin as quickly as possible, Mitchell says that the technology will help patients understand their disease. ‘A lot of the demand for this is just to communicate with patients what’s going on inside their body,’ Mitchell has said.
In the video above, Dr. Michael Hill, neurologist and Stroke Unit Director at Foothills Medical Clinic, explains the benefits of this new technology.
